Guest Blog: What I’ve Learned From Having a Hairstylist as a Mom

I wanted to start off by introducing myself to those who do not know me. My name is Sarah and I am the one and only daughter of Ann Beale from Ann Beale Hair Design. Over the years I have learned a thing or two from her. A lot of the time I am stubborn and don’t want to listen. But, when it comes to hair she’s right.
Lesson #1 Just because you haven’t washed your hair today doesn’t mean it’s dirty…
Most people think hair washing should be apart of a daily hygiene routine. This is one of the lessons I caught onto at an early age (Less hair washing more sleep? Say no more). I used to think it was gross but i’ve come to realize that over-washing your hair does more harm than good. I also use shampoo less & wash my hair with just conditioner sometimes.
Lesson #2 There is such a thing as too much bleach
Okay… this one sounds kind of obvious. I was born a blonde and my hair has gotten darker over the years, but I refuse to believe it. Every time I get my hair done I’m like “bleach the whole thing” and my mom shoots me down quickly by saying that my hair will start falling out in clumps and she’s unfortunately right.
Lesson #3 Just because you see it on Instagram/Pinterest does not mean it is real life.
You cannot just schedule an hour long appointment expecting to pay around $100 when you want something like this:

What you don’t see behind the picture is days of work and hundreds of dollars. Now, is that trend really worth the pretty penny? Probably not. I love the classic and timeless looks that my mom does on a daily basis.
Lesson #4 Professional products are worth the price tag
Especially if you have color treated hair. Trust me, I’m a college student, I’ve tried it all and nothing compares to my beloved It’s a 10 & Marrakesh Oil. I even heard that my mom has some 20% of of retail purchase coupons laying around (wink wink). Ask her about them during your next visit!
Have you learned any hair related lessons from my mom? Let me know!
